The Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary is busy educating children about the history and importance of coal. Coal in the Classroom presents various aspects of the mining industry, engaging children through field trips, classroom speakers and activities. Through their efforts, coal is presented in its true form, as a legacy and a future industry for the children of West Virginia.

 

The Coal in the Classroom program informs students about the variety of services coal provides and how it generates energy. Found in 25 states, America has more energy potential in coal than the Middle East has in oil. Coal is also used to produce thousands of products including, toothpaste, bowling balls and perfumes.

 

The Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary enjoys the Coal in the Classroom program as an opportunity to promote the heritage of West Virginia, as coal is a common denominator linking businesses, families and friends. Coal touches everyone within the community in one way or another.

 

The Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary is on a mission today, fulfilling a dream to present coal as an important part of the nation. The Coal in the Classroom project educates children across the state, planting seeds for the future.
